Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim,
Produced: October, 2005
This production was dominated by a concept for literal video projection. We determined early that it wouldn't be worth the effort unless we could do it well and bright, and we were able to obtain use of a 20,000 lumen projector on highly favorable terms.
I found myself searching for what I could treat in this production, just to impose design. It really came down to characterizing and framing the space. After a lot of sketching and analyzing the script, I proposed a frame characterizing industrial America, emblamatic of the mechanics, indifference, and failure of the American dream for most of those who sought to kill the President. The rest was flown pieces, a few wagoned pieces, and properties. A lot of attention went into guns.
In February, 2006, this production was presented for the Region I American College Theater Festival.
